The Emergency Response Carer Service is a new service that will provide 24/7 crisis response for known family carers living within the Borough of Telford & Wrekin for up to a period of 72 hours. Tenderers should already be registered with the Care Quality Commission for the provision of domiciliary care and have current experience and capability of providing emergency replacement support.

Currently there is in the region of 1,500 known carers in the Borough of Telford & Wrekin. It is anticipated that around 500 of whom will register for this service. Evidence shows that within the first 12 months of such a service being launched, approximately 2% will need to call upon this service.

The contract available will be for a 3 year period with the option to extend up to 2 years beyond that. More detailed information about this service will be available in the tender documents, specifically Schedule 1 Service Specification, which are to be published towards the end of June 2011.
